EDGE Pledgers
To further enhance our ambition to have a competition “for entrepreneurs, driven and funded by entrepreneurs” we have also introduced The EDGE Pledge.
The EDGE Pledge was launched in early 2017 with the intention of providing a platform for successful entrepreneurs to give something back to the EDGE competition from exits or a donation, and in turn support Scotland’s next great entrepreneurs.
As Sir Tom Hunter, founder of The Hunter Foundation, said about the EDGE Pledge:
“This is a fundamental step forward in the mindset of Scotland’s entrepreneurs, underpinning the culture of giving back with purpose – in this case supporting the next generation of entrepreneurs by sharing in their own success. This is absolutely creating a virtuous circle where success supports success, entrepreneurs help one another and ultimately Scotland wins out.”
EDGE winning Pledger, Victoria Nicol of My Language Connection said:
“The reason that I signed the EDGE Pledge is that I feel it is incredibly important to give back once you've built a profitable and successful company and used the Scottish EDGE funds to achieve this. Without Scottish EDGE we would not have seen the growth so far that we've seen in 2020 nor have the opportunity to expedite our growth plans.
“Without all of the other businesses, philanthropists, Scottish Enterprise, RBS and the incredible EDGE team pulling all of that together, we wouldn't have the same opportunity as we have now. I think it's therefore very important for any Scottish EDGE winner to help other businesses grow, thrive and have the same opportunities that we've been lucky enough to have, once in the position to do so.”
