Never ones to bow to superstition, Scottish EDGE, the UK’s largest business funding competition, is on the hunt for Scotland’s most innovative entrepreneurs with the launch of ‘Lucky’ Round 13.
Applications to Scottish EDGE Round 13 will be accepted through the competition online portal until 5th September, 2018 at 2pm, requiring a completed application and a short video pitch.
Over its past 12 rounds, Scottish EDGE has awarded over £11 million to Startup businesses throughout Scotland and has had a huge impact on Scotland’s economy. Past winners, who include Michael Corrigan of Trtl and Leah Hutcheon of Appointedd, have collectively generated additional investment of £82.47, £104.22 m in turnover and created 2214 jobs.
All applications submitted in Round 13 will be assessed by a number of independent, expert panels before being shortlisted to participate in a Scottish EDGE semi-final or the final of the competition’s subsidiary categories, namely Young EDGE or Wild Card EDGE.
Prizes of up to £100,000 will be awarded at a full day pitching Final on 6th December 2018 with winners announced at the Awards Ceremony in the evening. Additionally, one deserving business within the STEM sector will receive up to £150,000 via the Higgs EDGE Special Award.
The return of the Creative EDGE award, which is supported by Creative Scotland, will see one business within the creative sector awarded up to £100,000, and the newly introduced Social Enterprise EDGE Award, supported by the Postcode Innovation Trust, will result in a Social Enterprise business receiving a further £100,000.
Scottish EDGE CEO Evelyn McDonald said; “Just over a month after awarding £1 million to twenty-five businesses in our 12th round, we are back to offer Scotland’s next wave of innovative startups the chance to apply for Scottish EDGE funding and support.
“We’re very excited to see the great social enterprising ideas that come into the competition this round thanks to the newly launched Social Enterprise EDGE award.
“Having received a total of 245 excellent applications in our last round, we expect the standard of the competition to be high. I wish everyone applying for ‘Lucky’ EDGE13 the very best of success and I can’t wait to see the always fascinating ideas that come our way.”
