Three’s the magic number for one lucky Wild Card EDGE winner as the Wild Card EDGE Public Vote returns for its 3rd outing. Following the success of last round’s vote, which saw winners, Nu Blvck, go on to pitch live at the Scottish EDGE Round Nine Final, we’re hugely excited to announce the three Scottish businesses competing for your vote in Round Ten of the competition. BUBL Bags, Drink Baotic by Hippo and Hedgehog and Sonik Pocket now have until Wed, 24th May, 2017 to convince the public that their product or service has that winning EDGE – deserving of additional funding and support. The business with the highest number of unique votes will be given the opportunity to pitch for up to £100,000 in grant and loan funding at the Scottish EDGE final on June 22nd, 2017 (Get your free ticket here).
The three start-up businesses taking part in the Wild Card EDGE Public Vote were shortlisted from a pool of twelve Round Ten Wild Card EDGE winners by an expert judging panel, and provide a snapshot of the broad spectrum of businesses who apply for and win the support of Scottish EDGE bi-annually.
Commenting on the public vote’s return, Evelyn McDonald, CEO of the Scottish EDGE, said; “the Wild Card Vote is a real highlight of the judging period for all of the team at Scottish EDGE. We are always delighted and humbled by the overwhelming response from those keen to participate and cast their vote. Likewise, the overwhelming support given to each business from the organisations and institutions which have helped them in the past is testament to the close-knit nature of Scotland’s entrepreneurial ecosystem.
“BUBL Bags, Drink Baotic by Hippo and Hedgehog and Sonik Pocket provide a snapshot of the broad spectrum of the innovative, high-growth potential businesses who apply for and win the support of Scottish EDGE bi-annually. We’re delighted to offer one of them the chance to pitch for additional funding of up to £100,000, on top of the funding of up to £10,000 which they have already won.”
Finally, to celebrate our welcoming of Virgin Media Business as our key Round 10 exhibitor, we’ll be giving away a £100 Virgin Experience Gift Card to one lucky voter (chosen at random), to be put toward anything from a spa day to a hot air balloon ride!
So, without further ado, here are the three Wild Card EDGE Public Vote pitches!
- BUBL Bag is a protective packaging company. Focusing on inflatable packaging products which provide maximum product protection cost-effectively. As well as selling proprietary products we sell our own unique products, BUBLBags, which provide excellent product protection, and are reusable, recyclable, lighter than standard packaging and have a much lighter environmental footprint. Our business was created to primarily address transit damage. Due to the huge rise in e-commerce more and more products are being shipped through the postal and courier networks. Existing products like padded envelopes, bubble wrap, polystyrene, cardboard boxes all have a number of drawbacks which mean that the products that they are supposed to protect all incur unnecessarily high levels of transit damage. As well as providing the protection required BUBL Bags were designed to improve the environmental impact of packaging in e-commerce networks due to over packaging and poorly specified solutions which are difficult or inconvenient to re-use.
